It doesn't matter how infrequently I see my little sister. I always see myself in her. After visiting her across the country from me, her kids started calling me "Aunt Mom". That was the inspiration for this painting.
Portrait of John Muir, a naturalist, and early advocate for the preservation of natural wilderness, was done to decorate the walls of a cabin I own at Mt Rainier called Muir Cabin. It is a beautiful cabin in a remote natural setting on Copper Creek. It is part of Copper Creek Inn, Cabins and Lodge in Ashford, Washington.
This painting was based on a story told to me by my friend Steve about his mother's sisters who would get together for coffee that they drank from tiny tiny cups and gossiped. The story stuck in my head for years before it finally emerged on a canvas. I never met the sisters except through Steve's story.

This painting is part of a series called "Workers" that I did in 2002, shortly after purchasing Copper Creek Inn. This is Jenny, the second Jenny to make pies at Copper Creek Restaurant.
